GivingTuesday 2020 Results

This #GivingTuesday, people around the world committed their voice, time, and money to support causes they care about. With each gift given, a rallied sense of hope. While the world may look a little different for #GivingTuesday this year, it makes the results even more inspiring. 

During our webinar with GivingTuesday's Chief Data Officer Woodrow Rosenbaum and CyberGrants' Pete Karns this past November, they spoke at length about why GivingTuesday matters, the global impact of GivingTuesday, and most importantly, how “generosity is an antidote to isolation, fear, and division.” As evidenced by the early results we have seen from GivingTuesday 2020, kindness and generosity knows no bounds. 

This year, people around the world again came together for another record-setting day of giving. With estimates coming in at over $503M in online donations contributed in the U.S. alone, nearly 25% over 2019*, the impact of GivingTuesday has been enormous. We’re proud to announce that our clients made incredible happen with new records set on the overall contributions collected.

Every year at CyberGrants, we have witnessed year-over-year growth in giving. Through the generous contributions of our clients, total GivingTuesday contributions through CyberGrants increased over GivingTuesday 2019

  • Total giving on GivingTuesday increased by 24% to a record $20M
  • We processed $9 million in employee giving in just one day!
  • The number of unique organizations that participated increased by 49%
  • Employee donations went up 33% compared to last year’s GivingTuesday
  • We saw an increase of 16% in company matches
  • The number of unique donors experienced double-digit growth
  • Unique gifts surged by 75%
Similar to 2019, education, health, museums, and food banks were the categories that received the most contributions. Leading nonprofits like Feeding America, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Smithsonian, and the American Red Cross were all in the top ten recipients, and thousands of smaller organizations benefited as well.

This year we supported donations to over 15,000 nonprofits on GivingTuesday alone, and witnessed a 24% increase in the amount of giving over last year’s GivingTuesday. This year we also noticed many of our clients chose to customize their programs for GivingTuesday by offering creative ways to incent giving participation. The flexibility we offer in our platform, and the multiple ways to give, including online, ACH, credit cards, and payroll deductions, help our clients maximize their impact throughout the year, and particularly during this global day of generosity."

Inspiring employee giving at CarMax

This year, we were honored to support a generous initiative with The CarMax Foundation. They provided all 25,000+ CarMax associates with a $25 credit – or electronic ”Care Card” – to donate to an eligible nonprofit of their choice. Serving as an extension of the existing gift matching program, associates could log into the CarMax Associate Giving Portal and designate a nonprofit of choice to receive the funds. With full associate participation in this initiative, the Foundation is poised to donate $650,000 to nonprofit organizations across the United States.  Each ”Care Card” will be valid for donation through January 31, 2021.

While the pandemic has made it difficult to volunteer in person, this initiative will empower every associate to donate financial resources to the cause most important to them this GivingTuesday and holiday season.”

We couldn’t have made this incredible day happen without the dedication of our cross functional teams who support the efforts of some of the biggest brands (and givers) in the world. Our team’s all-star performance helped manage the increase in giving processing we experienced this year.

The real MVP's of the day are our clients and everyone who impacted GivingTuesday in an incredible way. GivingTuesday is just the start of giving season for CyberGrants and our clients, and we expect to process millions more before the end of the year.
